The White House is “upping the ante”, so to speak, in the administration’s bid to win the “sequester” battle since evidently the American public is not freaking out over it quite enough to their liking. The administration has raised the terror threat, warning the borders will likely be flooded with illegal immigrants if the sequester is allowed to proceed as planned on Friday. They warn almost a quarter of border patrol agents could lose their jobs.
The fall guy, most naturally, must be the Republicans. Essentially, he is claiming the GOP wants to let the terrorists across our borders or else they would allow tax increases. It’s yet another threat in a long line of threat’s that will be our impending doom come Friday.
But let’s take a few facts in to consideration.
On October 22nd, 2012, Obama said, “This sequester is not something I proposed.”
On February 13th, in response to comments by Jack Lew, Jay Carney verified the idea of the sequester came from the White House. He can’t go back now.
The sequester would only remove $85 billion from the current fiscal year. Yes, I said “only” but in light of our now hugely inflated spending, it’s a drop in the hat.
Bob Woodward explained in the Washington Post, “the final deal reached between Vice President Biden and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in 2011 included an agreement that there would be no tax increases in the sequester in exchange for what the president was insisting on: an agreement that the nation’s debt ceiling would be increased for 18 months” and goes on to claim Obama, by demanding an increase in revenue is “moving the goal post.”
And he is. He is traveling in campaign mode in order to garner support for his goal post moving efforts.
Obama has no meetings on the books today. Not even with Harry Reid. Instead, he is continuing his “scare tactic tour”, traveling to Virginia shipyards which could be potentially hit hard from the sequester cuts since they build naval vessels. Please ignore the fact Obama is wanting to cut the military in the first place. Evidently those jobs do not matter.
“The White House said Mr. Obama’s trip today is an opportunity to highlight the “devastating impact” the sequester will have “if Congressional Republicans fail to compromise to avert the sequester by March 1st”, CBS reports.
Do you ever wonder why they don’t phrase it “if Congressional Democrats fail to compromise”?
Obama is going on the road to sell his ideas concerning the sequester. He has play upon the emotions of the general public in order to continue is unabashed spending spree.
I believe the American people, but most certainly the American right, are becoming slightly desensitized to the crisis du jour tactic. Fear mongering has been a regular practice of this administration and understandably because it is effective.
Even with the border security we have now been given the ultimatum of only two choices. Raise taxes or sacrifice our security. They’d like you to believe it’s that simple and it’s a choice between the two.
The Washington Times reports, “Some Republican governors fired back, saying they asked Mr. Obama to delay some of his planned health care spending instead of cutting existing programs such as education.
“I said if these cuts really are that devastating, would he at least consider delaying some of the new spending instead of cutting existing programs? And he disagreed with that,” Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal told reporters. “He did not want to do that.”
Here’s a couple more facts for you. Sen. Rand Paul of KY returned $600,000 dollars to the U.S. Treasury for unused funding.
President Obama will not be taking a pay cut.
Currently, Congress has no plans to meet Friday.
It can be summed up quite easily. You are to sacrifice, but the programs and agencies that matter most to the President does not. And if you do not support his ideas of raising taxes and even more Government spending, then he will make an attempt to scare you into submission.
“Just the facts, ma’am. Just the facts.”
